Every site sells watches made in China. They claim that there are different “grades” of watches. They claim that there are Swiss made, Japanese made, Italian made, and Asian replicas. The truth is they are all made in China.





What they call an Asian replica sells for under $100 and is worth about $5-$10. If worn every day it might last two weeks, and will not keep good time. It will not be water resistant.


What they call a Japanese or Italian made replica sells for under $250, and is worth about $15-$25. If worn every day it might last two months, and it might keep good time. It will not likely be watch resistant.


What they call a Swiss replica varies in quality. They sell from anywhere between $400 to $1200. The watch is worth at best $50. If worn every day it might last two years. The time will have to be set every two weeks or so. It will at least be watch resistant.





The fact is that none of them are what they claim they are. They say the watch has a Swiss ETA movement. The wholesale cost on an ETA movement with date is about $100. The Chronograph movements wholesale for about $400. The cost of a sapphire crystal is about $200. Do the math.





The biggest problem is the sites are operated from outside the USA. You might pay $900 for what they call a “Grade A Swiss Replica” but you may receive any one of the above.





I am a watch collector. I own the real thing. I own some replicas. I can tell you are wearing a replica form 10 feet away. I also own look-alike watches that look much like a Rolex, but are in act made by Invica and can be purchased from Amazon. Some of them look more like a Rolex than the replicas even though they say Invicta on the face and on the side.
