Is being White sort of like a status symbol, like wearing a Rolex watch or driving a Ferrari?

In other words, skin color doesn't matter at a base level.


But when you have human interactions, it's sociologically a huge deal?





Don't you think being fair-skinned makes you ultimately more desirable to other humans, and more likely to be successful?|||No!! I don't look in the mirror everyday and think "Wow, I'm so glad I'm white." It's just another colour.





Look at Obama, Halle Berry, and all the rappers/singers like 50 Cent, Beyonce and (the richest rapper) Jay-Z - they're all successful, and they aren't white. I mean, decades ago, if an American had voiced the idea of a future black president, they would've been laughed at. And regarding beauty - what about Halle Berry? She's been nominated the most beautiful woman in the world. Which, strictly speaking, isn't really valid because nobody judges the appearance of every person on Earth. But still, you get my point.





Skin colour has nothing to do with success. None of the materialistic stuff matters, because most celebrities came from poor families when they were children. Would they have gotten to where they are today with no talent, no character, no determination? No. They had a dream, a goal, and they stuck to it until they reached victory. If you want success, you have to keep trying, even if you slip up along the way because that's inevitable, but DON'T GIVE UP. and more likely to be successful? - success depends on your career choice|||Paleness is instinctively desirable to humans because it allows easier recognition of disease in potential mates. I think perhaps because the world is primarily filled with medium or dark-colored people, fair people come off as kind of a delicacy, so to speak. I believe everyone has their own attractive qualities, but I can understand what you are saying. I hope that you are being purely objective and not racist. It is an unfortunate thing that in this age of technological advancement, white people are still oftentimes more likely to be successful. I think the world just has yet to overcome negative, hateful feelings of the past.|||For some, sadly, yes. But I think what ultimately hooks someone is your intelligence and social capability. America is a racist country and white people tend to do better. Some of it is because of a cycle (wealthy white people have wealthy white kids who grow up and have more wealthy white kids), but there are also people who secretly might not hire people of color to well-paying and desirable positions of work. Not everyone is like that, but some are.





I think you just have to keep an eye out for what environment you're in. If you're building a life somewhere, take note of what the local culture is like. Is it backwards? Is there very little integration?





In other places in the world, white people aren't seen as beautiful. In Brazil, having beautiful olive-to-brown skin is considered sexy and desirable. In sub-saharan Africa, having pitch black skin is seen as beautiful.





It's not a universal truth. Even here in America, I've run into people who DON'T like white people. I asked out this Palestinian-American guy once and he just flat-out said no. He wasn't really into "white girls." It kind of sucked because he was really cute and intelligent, but apparently also a tad bit racist.





I guess in short, it depends where you are (and how liberal people are to differences and diversity), and who you're talking to (if the person is friendly, they probably don't care, vs if they're unfriendly).|||I don't believe so, not in this day and age. It used to be a big status symbol to have pale skin because it showed you spent less time outside working in the sun. Lately though, it's anyone's game.





Edit: Look at what Avacado said, the desired skin tones fit the regions. A pale white person in Sahara Africa will cook up and die in the sun, it would be unhealthy for them, so they would be less desirable.|||it's rather over rated.|||uhhh do you live in the US? that's a really dumb question.





Here where I live there is an equal amount of rich white, brown, asian, black people.|||Nope, Not at all
