Did Rolex oysters ever come fitted with leather straps as almost every vintage one seems to have one?

Almost all the so called vintage Rolex watches you see for sale are fitted with replacement leather straps but they seem wrong and out of character. Does anyone know if they really were fitted from new?|||yes, back in the day
