How can a genuine Rolex watch be distinguished from a fake?

It would appear to be a ladies pre-war Rolex Oyster perpetual made in Switzerland. Marked with intricately detailed hall marks and has 17.5 stamped twice on the case.|||On a genuine Rolex the second hand smoothly glides/sweeps around the clock face, instead of ticking and moving each second. This is the best way to tell.

Or you could take the back off and check the inside.

Or take it to a jewellers, preferably a Rolex dealer or who specialises in watches such as Longines and ask for a valuation and information|||take the back off it and read the fine print inside the cover,,,,, it should say rolex|||The second hand sweeps instead of ticking like a quartz.|||Go to your local jeweller and ask for a valuation.|||Order Number: 056521

I think if its prewar, chances are its genuine. It has to be to have lasted this long.|||the spelling is usually Rolecks|||A real Rolex :

1-has nothing engraved or written on the steel or gold back (except seadewler model only).

2-does not have transparent back ( except some rare old models)

3- has a sharp 2.5 times magnification glass on the date where the date is centred and appears small if seen from out the magnification window

4- the luminous material of hours and hands is exactly of same colour and brightness

5- if the watch if made in 2005 or 2006 it has an itched crown seen with a magnifying glass under the six hour mark (over swiss made)

6- the certificate must have the same serial number as the number engraved between the lower lugs ,the number must be written on the certificate by small neat holes .

7- the finishing of the case ,chamfering of sharp edges and the caseback dents are perfect in the real thing.

8-the bracelet links are connected with polished wide slots screws ( not spring pins).

9- the model code number must be engraved between the upper lugs

Other signs are particular for some models like daytona or submariner please ask if you need this information|||difficult|||Do not dismantle it. Take it to a good quality jewellers they will say where to go|||a japanese made high quality fake rolex cannot be distinguished except for the Rolex Service Center. you should just send yours in and find out, i don't think they charge you anything for it.
