How do youi know if a ROLEX watch is real?

I gave 100.00 dollars for the watch, and was told its not genuane. To many freinds of mine belive it to be real for me to ignore any more.|||many ways to tell, first off: no one gives a ROLEX for $100 dollars even if its used...second is the parts on it, the back face should have no writings on it, just a plain metal surface|||Check out this listing!

|||if you want real answer go to a appraiser or better yet a pawn shop|||Yep they have fakes, that make good fakes look bad, so this one I agree must go to a jeweler, that is certified in selling higher end watches and jewelry.

What should I invest in, a rolex or a Jaguar convertible 1995?

I would be spending the same amount of money on both- $ 7,000|||Rolex is a very good choice,i once buy Rolex watches at http://www.buy-cheap-rolex-watches.com/ and http://www.cheaprolexshop.com/ the products have high value.|||Being a Rolex owner, I can tell you that the investment is OK, but not great. You can certainly buy the Rolex for $7000 and three years from now another of the same watch (new) will be say $10,000. But seriously how much cash will you get for it? If you are lucky you might be able to get $2500.

The watch dealer told me that he could give me $4000 in trade for my 1995 Rolex. It originally sold for about $2500. That sounds great but we are talking a trade toward a new watch, not cash. He could only give me $1500 cash. I will just keep the watch.

Maybe you will get lucky with the vintage car, if it is rare. Keep in mind that British made cars have very poor quality records. Look it up on JD Power.|||I have had Rolex for over 25 years and it is worth 8x what I paid for it. My dad wore his for over 40 years. However, I would not sell a watch that I will wear for a lifetime. I am not thinking that you will earn a profit on a Jag for another 20 years, especially a 1995 that was not very reliable.

Buy stocks instead:

Of course you might have to spend a fortune to keep it running.|||I like Mercedes myself (but I'm staying w/my Chrysler Sebring convertible til I marry rich.. lol.. 4 cyl, suprisingly economical)|||Neither of those is an investment. They both lose value over time.

But if you're looking to impress people, always go with the car. People won't think it's fake.|||Neither is an "investment." They are simply indulgences.|||The car, because everyone will think the watch is fake.

And a car is not really an investment...|||A Rolex won't sell for a profit.

Is being White sort of like a status symbol, like wearing a Rolex watch or driving a Ferrari?

In other words, skin color doesn't matter at a base level.

But when you have human interactions, it's sociologically a huge deal?

Don't you think being fair-skinned makes you ultimately more desirable to other humans, and more likely to be successful?|||No!! I don't look in the mirror everyday and think "Wow, I'm so glad I'm white." It's just another colour.

Look at Obama, Halle Berry, and all the rappers/singers like 50 Cent, Beyonce and (the richest rapper) Jay-Z - they're all successful, and they aren't white. I mean, decades ago, if an American had voiced the idea of a future black president, they would've been laughed at. And regarding beauty - what about Halle Berry? She's been nominated the most beautiful woman in the world. Which, strictly speaking, isn't really valid because nobody judges the appearance of every person on Earth. But still, you get my point.

Skin colour has nothing to do with success. None of the materialistic stuff matters, because most celebrities came from poor families when they were children. Would they have gotten to where they are today with no talent, no character, no determination? No. They had a dream, a goal, and they stuck to it until they reached victory. If you want success, you have to keep trying, even if you slip up along the way because that's inevitable, but DON'T GIVE UP. That is the true beauty of it. :)|||http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L_c7OSqL…|||Lighter skin as a standard of beauty was and is prevalent in a lot of cultures and it's nothing new, goes back thousands of years, all throughout europe the middle east and asia|||Don't you think being fair-skinned makes you ultimately more desirable to other humans -

desirable to people who are attracted to whites (asians)

------------------

and more likely to be successful? - success depends on your career choice|||Paleness is instinctively desirable to humans because it allows easier recognition of disease in potential mates. I think perhaps because the world is primarily filled with medium or dark-colored people, fair people come off as kind of a delicacy, so to speak. I believe everyone has their own attractive qualities, but I can understand what you are saying. I hope that you are being purely objective and not racist. It is an unfortunate thing that in this age of technological advancement, white people are still oftentimes more likely to be successful. I think the world just has yet to overcome negative, hateful feelings of the past.|||For some, sadly, yes. But I think what ultimately hooks someone is your intelligence and social capability. America is a racist country and white people tend to do better. Some of it is because of a cycle (wealthy white people have wealthy white kids who grow up and have more wealthy white kids), but there are also people who secretly might not hire people of color to well-paying and desirable positions of work. Not everyone is like that, but some are.

I think you just have to keep an eye out for what environment you're in. If you're building a life somewhere, take note of what the local culture is like. Is it backwards? Is there very little integration?

In other places in the world, white people aren't seen as beautiful. In Brazil, having beautiful olive-to-brown skin is considered sexy and desirable. In sub-saharan Africa, having pitch black skin is seen as beautiful.

It's not a universal truth. Even here in America, I've run into people who DON'T like white people. I asked out this Palestinian-American guy once and he just flat-out said no. He wasn't really into "white girls." It kind of sucked because he was really cute and intelligent, but apparently also a tad bit racist.

I guess in short, it depends where you are (and how liberal people are to differences and diversity), and who you're talking to (if the person is friendly, they probably don't care, vs if they're unfriendly).|||I don't believe so, not in this day and age. It used to be a big status symbol to have pale skin because it showed you spent less time outside working in the sun. Lately though, it's anyone's game.

Edit: Look at what Avacado said, the desired skin tones fit the regions. A pale white person in Sahara Africa will cook up and die in the sun, it would be unhealthy for them, so they would be less desirable.|||it's rather over rated.|||uhhh do you live in the US? that's a really dumb question.

Here where I live there is an equal amount of rich white, brown, asian, black people.|||Nope, Not at all

3/hold the face to your ear, you can actually hear the extremely rapid ticking

4/the face "glass" will not scratch nor break

5/when new it would be supplied in a green box containing rolex wallet etc. and Authentification certificate. My box and contents are in pristine mint condition, only ever opened once to take watch out when new. thus the box alone adds 拢200 to value.

6/Any Rolex dealer will check the serial number for you. Also every reported lost/stolen Rolex is listed so dealer can check!

7/ Assume its dodgy, any Rolex dealer would buy it from him either for cash or in part exchange for any other watch!

8/ Rolex dealers all have secondhand watches for sale.

9/Decide if you really want a Rolex, they look superb but are not accurate time keepers! the inside is based on much cheaper Zenith movement. A Cartier is much better watch for the money!

10/ I bought my Rolex new and with hindsight wish Id bought a Cartier, which would have also held its value better.

Take it to a Rolex dealer and have it appraised first. if he wont let you then walk away and buy from a real Rolex dealer, who will sell you secondhand for half new price, or less!|||money|||The easiest thing to do is look at the second hand; Rolex watches have a "Sweep" second hand, that does nto tick from number to number but instead just sweeps around the dial non-stop. I have an old Rolex watch and would want to restore it. Does anyone know any good places in So. Cal?

And yes, I have tried Rolex USA. It is simply unreasonable to do it with them. They wanted to charge me as much a whole brand new watch cost!!!|||Any watchmaker can take care of this issue. All you need is to polish your watch and have it serviced. It should not cost you more then $250. Los Angeles has one of the biggest jewelery industry - you should not have any problems finding someone to help you out.

Try to buy a Rolex dial at www.w-precision.com and then have it installed with any watchmaker.

How can I tell if a Rolex is real?

If I wanted to buy a used Rolex watch from a pawn shop or from a website like Craigslist.com, what are things that I should look for to certify that the piece is an authentic Rolex?|||all i know is a certificate of authenticity that has the warranty date on it.

some say that you should ask them to open up the watch inside %26amp; show you the engravings/movement but that is a very bad thing to do because it ruins the watch %26amp; the person won't be able to sell it for the same price afterwards.

i would go with my gut instinct. if it looks off/weird (colour, alignment, movement, strap/links, etc), then i wouldn't buy it. people will not go to great lengths to make it look authentic. just like how can you tell a fake bill from a real bill. if they put a lot of effort into making it look really real, then it must be worth that much.|||the minute hand ticks on a fake, the real rolex glide's not ticks :)|||ask a jeweler..they should tell you for free.

What are some ways of telling the difference between a fake Rolex and a real one?

Other than the perpetual motion and the green stuff on the back.|||Put the watch next to your ear. If you hear ticking, it is a fake. Quality watches, including Rolexes, will never give any sound no matter how hard you try to listen. Another option is to break the glass as Rolexes won't break. They are made of a sapphire blend material. Listening to the tick is the safer way of checking. :)

How to tell if a rolex is fake?

My grandmother gave me my grandfathers Rolex he had bought awhile ago today. how do i tell if its fake? it says Rolex Oyster Perpetual DateJust. she said they paid $300 dollars but that was about 20 years ago. thanks|||Anyone who tells you to look for the jerky second hand knows nothing about watches. There are real Rolex that have the “jerky” second hand. They are called “Oysterquartz” models, and they were on the market back in the 70's. Fake Rolex with smooth moving second hands have been on the market since the mid 90’s. In other words the second hand can tell you nothing.

I am a Rolex owner. I also repair watches. There are some simple tests that never fail:

1. If the watch has a rotating bezel (the part around the outside of the face that had some numbers on it). Turn the bezel. If it sounds like a ratchet wrench, then the watch is a fake. On a real Rolex the bezel turns quietly and smoothly with almost no perceivable ratcheting sound. Most Date Just models do not have a bezel, so this may not help you much.

2. Hold the watch in your hand and wave it side to side like as though it was a wand. Listen carefully. Do you hear a scraping sound? Do you feel the weight inside it winding? All fakes make a scraping noise. Also on a Real Rolex you will never hear or feel the weight.

3. Wind the watch fully (unscrew the crown, and turn it about 40 turns clockwise). Set the time. Leave the watch on a desk, and do not move it. After about 24 hours a real Rolex will still have the correct time. A fake will have stopped by then.

4. All gold Rolex are 18K solid. If any of the gold is wearing off, the watch is fake. But keep in mind that a fake usually will not last long enough for the gold to wear. They are usually very cheap made.

5. Only Rolex sales demos have glass backs (you can see the inside of the watch). Fakes often have glass backs.

6. If you do get a chance to see inside the watch, a Rolex movement is stainless steel, with red writing. Some of the wheels are red as well. There are NO plastic parts in a real Rolex. Almost all fakes have silver colored or gold plated movements. All fakes have a plastic ring inside to mount the movement.

7. You can take the watch to a dealer for service. If the watch is real, then he or she will charge you $600, and the watch will be like new (keep in mind that all high end watches need regular maintenance). If the watch is fake, it might be confiscated, but who cares in that case.

Three hundred dollars is too cheap for a Rolex even 20 years ago. That must be a mistake.|||it usually has something engraved into it and is very smooth, it may also look extremely shiny even though its age is old.|||The usual way is the second hand- there's no jerky "tick" - it's entirely smooth.|||the second hand dosnt tick at all, it runs smoothly

At the Rolex Kentucky, some riders were wearing red coats, including Karen O'Connor and Phillip Dutton. I think this means they are on the USA Equestrian Team, but I'm not sure. im pretty sure its only the olympic level riders that wear the red coats. I remember seeing Andrew Hoy at the Brisbane Ekka wearing it. he was the only one.|||It means they have competed internationally.|||I am not sure about all of this, but here it goes.

The red jacket is actually called a pink jacket, I do not know why.

I think it is traditionally worn by people who have fox hunted for 4 or 5 seasons or have grown up riding on an open hunt field. It is also worn by members of the USET or other international teams that have competed regularly in hunt events or are members of official hunt clubs .|||You are completly right.

How do I tell the difference between an authentic ROLEX and a fake?

Any pictures to support your theory?|||***With cheaper knock-offs, it is simple to tell as the second hand on a "real" rolex will sweep smoothly, rather than "ticking" from second to second. This is not the only way to tell, though, as many knock-off's have sweeping hands. Look at the backing; many fakes have clear backings to see the mechanisms working; real rolex watches never have clear backings. Also, true rolex watches have no markings on the case backing; most knock-offs have engravings of the rolex logo, or other hallmarks to make you think it is real. The rare exceptions to this are ladies' models (prior to the mid 1990's) which had "Original Rolex Design" or a similar variation thereof, engraved on the caseback in an arc fashion. Another exception is on the Sea-Dweller case backs which will have "ROLEX OYSTER ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE" engraved around the outside of the caseback in an arc fashion. Genuine Rolex models are shipped new from the factory with a Hologram-encoded (3-dimensional) sticker on the caseback. This sticker features the trademarked Rolex "crown" positioned above the watch's case reference number. The hologram can be easily identified by viewing it from different angles, thus causing the background pattern to change. However, "most" counterfeit stickers are not holograms at all, but rather simply a repetitious "Rolex" pattern which does not change in appearance when viewed from different angles. It is worth mentioning that the genuine Rolex hologram stickers did not feature the "crown logo" as a part of the hologram until (around) 2002, when the sticker was redesigned. At that time, the Reference number was also changed from gold lettering to black, as it is currently. For authentic Rolexes, the crystal (on all current date models--excluding the Sea-Dweller) will have a glass bubble, or "cyclops" attached to the crystal, positioned over the date. Its purpose is to magnify the tiny aperture and does so at 2.5 times magnification. However, on MOST counterfiet models the date magnification is more like 1.5 times, at best. This may not sound like much of a difference, but when looking at the dates side-by-side it's obvious. The date window should practically "fill up" the cyclops--the fakes don't even come close. It is worth mentioning that some counterfeits are now featuring a new larger font date wheel to give the "illusion" of being magnified at a full 2.5 times. Rolex models featuring the Triplock crown (i.e. Submariner, Sea-Dweller and Daytona) utilize an extra seal within the threads of the winding crown's tube. This gasket resembles a black o-ring and can be visible when the winding crown is unscrewed fully. As shown in the example above, (most) counterfeit models will not feature this o-ring seal, but rather will have basic screw-down threads. It is worth mentioning that some new counterfeits will feature a "similar" looking rubber seal, but upon closer examination you will see that it is merely cosmetic, and is not functional. Genuine Rolex Yacht-Master models feature a "minute" hand which is considerably thicker than those on other Rolex sports models. However, to save money, counterfeiters will often use the same hands found on the Submariner. Genuine Rolex Daytona models feature mini-registers on the dial which perform Chronograph "stop watch" functions (i.e. elapsed hours and minutes). It is also worth mentioning that the large "sweep" hand on the dial is also part of the stop watch function, and is not the primary second hand-- the second hand for the watch is the small 20/40/60 register. However, counterfeit models will rarely perform these functions, but rather will be used for "day of week", "date", and "24-hour time". (Please Note: not all counterfeit models will be "printed" with these incorrect functions, but their operations will still be incorrect.) Furthermore, the size and position of these mini registers will often be incorrect on counterfeits. As shown in the example above, the counterfeit model features much smaller registers which are positioned too far inward on the dial, while the genuine Daytona features registers which are positioned much farther outward--almost touching the 3-6-9 hour markers. Brand new for 2002, Rolex has started micro-etching a tiny "coronet" (or crown) logo into the crystal, at the 6 o'clock position. This mark is quite small, so it is difficult to see with the naked eye. However, when viewed under a loupe, the faint outline can be distinguished. Probably the most accurate way to identify a genuine/counterfeit Rolex watch is by locating the Serial and Case Reference Numbers. These special identification numbers are engraved on the side of the case, located between the lugs. The engraving between the lugs of a genuine Rolex feature very fine lines, which actually catch the light similar to that of a diamond cut edge. However, (some) counterfeits will feature a sandy (acid) etched appearance, as seen in the example above. Furthermore, the spacing on these numbers is often too close together. It is worth mentioning that counterfeiters frequently use the SAME numbers on their watches. Thus, the example shown above: "R863698" is seen quite often, and is a pretty good sign of a fake.***

I read through this, and definitely give my stamp of approval. My Dad is a watchmaker by trade, specializing in Rolexes, and there is nothing in the massive explanation that I would disagree with. My Dad used to tell me things like that all the time when I was growing up, though not to as much as detail as the specific makes and models and their exceptions.

The green backing concerns me the most... If it has that, AND its second-hand is 'jittery', it is definitely a fake.|||you have to be an expert to tell..|||Very easy to tell...Rolexes minute hand does a continuous sweep. Look at another watch with a second hand, notice how it goes, tick, tick, tick, and there is a slight pause. The Rolex will not pause, ticktickticktick, continuously. Best Rolex watches and difference between them all?

I am looking at getting a imitation Rolex watch, and there are so many types. I want to know the difference between them and which ones are the most common watches worn by people. I don't want to get a gold one or a leather strap.

Thanks|||If you are getting a fake you might as well buy one of each. They are really cheap and do not last long.

The most common is the SubMariner. I have a real one and a fake.

You can always go on Amazon and buy an Invicta Pro diver Automatic. It is much better built than a typical fake Rolex. It looks like one at a distance, and cost under $100.

No matter what anyone tells you, no fakes are made in Switzerland, USA, Japan, Italy, or Russia. Most come from China.

The best one I ever seen was the one I bought while I was in China. There are many tests for fake Rolex that are posted on the net. The one I bought passes all the tests. It can give you the reception that you have a real one except for these observations:

1. Shake the watch from side to side. You can feel the winding weight and hear it scrape against the inside back of the case.

2. No part of a real Rolex will respond to a magnet. All fakes will stop running when placed near a strong magnet. A real Rolex will not.|||Yes when you buy a rolex watch then you should test your watch its fake or real Original rolex. What watches besides Rolex do not have a quartz battery?

A lot of brands have non battery watches. Citizen has the "eco-drive" range, that charges its battery from light, and never needs to be replaced. Or you could get an "automatic" watch, (no battery at all) which works off the movement of the wearer's arm, although some tend to be very expensive, like the rolex. Some cheaper brands that make automatic watches are Seiko, Citizen, and Tissot. Thats a strange problem you have! Maybe it's your electric personality! Good luck.|||You mean a quartz movement? What did you guys think of the Rolex 24?

What did you guys think of the Rolex 24?

I thought the last 2 hours of racing was about as good as it gets

Were you happy with the results?

Did you enjoy watching it?

Did you Watch it?

Do you care?|||I think it was one of the best Rolex 24's ive seen. I mean seriously.... 4 DP cars on the lead lap for most of the entire race.... sooo exciting. It was also the first time i watched all live coverage.

Soo many funny things they showed in the garage area too. Did anyone see the part about the $60,000 dollars of Pirelli tires??? i mean wow 16,000 sets of tires in that one tent. That was pretty cool how they showed teams taking old tires back, ordering new ones...

I cant remember but the commenters, kept making funny comments on the race on Saturday night, i remember one quote "These teams are too lazy, i remember back in the good days there were only 2 of us driving"

A crazy part was during the Hour 4 pit stops when both leader and 2nd place cars (Law and Montoya) both stalled their cars after pitting, that was crazy....

Another funny part was in the morning hours, they did a segment on what people do in the infield during the race, i got a couple laughs.

I kept getting mad when the #2 DP Childress car kept going behind the wall early in the race. I really wanted them to stay up front.

So after they were out of contention for the win, i then started cheering for the # 01 of Jaun Pablo Montoya (mainly the final 3 hours) That was some exciting racing.

But yeah i think if i rated each part of the race, the first 6 hours and the last 3 hours were the best.|||I thought it was a great way to kick off Speedweeks. I watched on FOX-Saturday and at the end. It was great racing.

I do care, because it takes a lot of skill to race in the Rolex 24, I have been watching it for years (About 20 years ago, I used to watch the coverage on TBS, when they would provide coverage on the top of the hour). It means to me that NASCAR season is about to start.|||What a race! The top 4 cars were seperated by only 2 seconds. Montoya's car was great in the infield part but the 58 car was great on the nascar track. Montoya was right behind the 58 but once the entered nascar turn 1 he would lose all of it. Since students can get into the infield for $15 there's lots of parties going on and underage drinking. This kid passed out from drinking too much and they had to call the amabulance. I head this guy say to the ER that his friend was 15. This other guy was trying to climb the fence in the infield and run towards the track but was unsuccessful. These girls went streaking and one got tired and sat down. A couple of minuets later she passed out naked.I was in the garages around 1 AM and had to use the bathroom. As I looked Casey Mears was next to me. That was weird.|||Yes those last 2 hr were great, I was cheering for the Ganassi team, but it was great seeing David Donohue finally getting the 24 hr. It was a great race, I always enjoy watching it,I look forward to it every yr. I've been to the race 3 times, its great.

Go Dale Jr %26amp; Hms|||I watched a little of it, but watched the last two hours which were the best. I was hoping Montoya would re-pass Donahue, but his 8 cylinder car DP was no match for that 6 cylinder on the straight away. I was hoping the GT's would hold up traffic more so Montoya could pass. What a wild race!|||It is not my style of racing. However,I have to agree with some others on here and say that the last couple of hours was pretty fricking exciting-had me on the edge of my seat rooting for my man Montoya.|||I only saw parts of it, but what I saw, I enjoyed. I was pulling for Ganassi, with JPM doing well up to the last half hour. Not my favorite type of racing, but better than no racing. Only 2 more weeks to go....

I have inherited a Rolex watch that has been appraised at 19k. It's in great condition and has the letter of authenticity. I want to sell it but don't know where to start. |||You need to sell this through a specialist company. I have shown a couple below, but shop around for companies that buy Rolex using Google and don't rush into accepting an offer.

You will not get anything like what it is "worth" as the dealer will look to make a commission, particularly as they will probably need to clean, refurbish and market the watch. Make sure you know as much as possible about the model you have - it should all be in the letter of authenticity and correspond with details on the timepiece (the serial number is hidden under the lower band if you have any doubts about authenticity).

19k is a lot, even for a Rolex. For that valuation I would assume it is made of gold or is a particular collectors item. Steel Rolexes tend to be worth much less, platinum more. Rolexes also tend to keep their value over time, so don't feel in a hurry to sell unless you need the cash. Prices might be higher when the markets get frothy again in a few years time.|||You will likely get your best price %26amp; safest sale combination at a jeweler.

Try a few "high end" places in your area -- bigger metro areas are better -- and see how close the prices are to your appraisal. Take the appraisal with you, but don't show it to them until they give you their number.

Keep in mind that your appraisal may be a retail value and a retailer cannot give you that price and still make a profit. If it is an insurance replacement estimate, it also may be "unrealistically" high for your needs.

Why does the Rolex Series split the classes up?

I've noticed that the Rolex Sports Car Series seems to have two separate races instead of running both classes at once. Anyone know why they do it? I know ALMS runs all four series at once, and the field is pretty big. Rolex fields aren't THAT big are they?|||They should definitely be run together.

No, Rolex fields aren't THAT big.|||I agree they should run all the classes together. Mid-Ohio is a tight course, might be too many cars. They ran them both at VIR, which is HUGE.|||Rolex Sports Car Series fields are actually much larger than ALMS fields when you combine the Rolex Series's two classes together, despite the ALMS having more classes. This is because the Rolex series has a lot of cost-cutting rules.

Anyways, I believe that the Rolex Series runs separate races at certain tracks because those races are support races to NASCAR, Champ Car, or IRL races. I am not sure why this pratice is done, one explanation is that is done to keep the races shorter than the major event at the track, while keeping the fans entertained for several hours. This was a common pratice during the IMSA GTP era of American sports car racing.|||Grand Am likes to separate the classes to keep the races simple. I'd say there's a 20+ car field in each class, and the GT class is a lot slower than the Daytona Prototype. For as cheap as a Daytona Prototype is, it's only as fast (if not slower) than an LMGT1 car.|||The Grand Am Rolex series has enough cars in each class to run them separately. As mentioned before, IMSA used to do this except at the endurance race and some others. The ALMS runs all the categories at the same time because some of the classes don't run more than 3 or 4 cars- such as P1 where sometimes only the Audis show up (like at Long Beach) or GT1 where sometimes the Corvette team runs un-opposed. Back in the GTP days IMSA would run GTP races with 17-18 cars participating. Smaller split fields are nothing new.

Is a luxury watch like Rolex worth so much money?

Why do luxury watches like Rolex cost so much money. They look kinda plain and the mechanical movements don't keep time as well as a their super cheap quartz counterparts. What then is the justification for spending over 5000 dollars for a regular steel watch?|||They are hand made. They last the rest of your life (assuming they get regular service). The equivalent Chinese watch lasts only a few months.

Even the cheapest stainless steel Rolex costs about $7,000.

A Rolex is vanity. I own one because I like it. But many people choose to have children. Children are vanity. I choose not to have that kind of vanity. Thankfully my girlfriend is on board with that. Smart phones are also vanity. I have no need for that. Everyone has their own vanity.

Also a Rolex is something earned. It is not about the watch. It is about the work it took to make the money to buy it.|||A very quick introduction to watches:

Watch lovers love mechanical watches. Mechanical watches are anachronistic; quartz watches are much more accurate and much less expensive.

Good mechanical watches can cost tens of thousands of dollars but are intended to last decades or longer. Patek Philippe, Rolex, and others make watches at this level. These watches are handmade, in-house, and feature exquisite workmanship in every minute part. Every detail of every component is perfect. People who have toured Patek Philippe's factory have commented, after seeing how much work goes into a Patek watch, that they don't understand how the company can sell their watches for so little.

Most people do not want such an expensive watch, and watches in the $30+ range are accurate and reliable. (Timex makes watches at this level.)

For a bit more, you can choose a watch with better finishing details and have more options (style-wise). If you're willing to spend up to $200 or so you can choose from innumerable styles of quartz watches that will be well-made and reliable. Watches at this level will be steel and, if you wish, gold-plated. Seiko and many others make watches at this level.

(In between extremely good mechanical watches and $200 watches are quartz watches made by serious watch companies that also make mechanical watches. These watches are made of gold so they cost quite a bit more than $200, and their finishing detail is usually very well done. Watches in this range might cost from $1,200 to $15,000+. Baume et Mercier and many others make watches at this level.)|||They are well made. $5,000 would be for a used one ! It's just a brand name to me.

I have a made in China watch so cheap it doesn't even have a brand name on it ! And it's accurate to about a minute a year. Which one is a better watch and which one rules the world? Rolex or Patek Philippe?

I'm considering between Rolex Presidential watch, and Patek Philippe Grandmaster Complication Skymoon. Which one is better, and which one do you like best?|||There's not any comparison between the two.

The Rolex is just a standard day-date caliber movement dressed up with a bunch of diamonds that raise the price. It's a fine watch, but there's nothing special about it from a horological standpoint. In fact, from that standpoint, it's pretty boring.

The Patek-Philippe, by contrast, is a true horological masterpiece. If you want a watch that's unique, and shows watchmaking at is finest, you want the Patek.

Last year, I lucked out a found a pair of 2 CT diamond studs for $1000, they were appraised at $13,000, so people are desperate to sell off their valuables.|||Hey Swit,

Whenever it proves difficult to own a new designer Rolex watch the only choice men and women have is to settle for a Used Rolex or a replica whichever is admired. Either way, the individual is able to save up cash or to have a desirable item within their budget abilities. Dealers of these products have nowadays flooded the industry for watch and jewelry and people are really paying for them.

In that case no one making this decision is alone and similarly they must not think that the products they get are not worth the same classiness of owning a new watch. If only it were possible everyone would get these but unfortunately Rolex prices are too exorbitant and are afforded by the loaded few.

If the goal is buying a used type then it should be different from a replica because it is made by the original brand only that it has been won before. In other words, everyone wants to be sure that they are actually buying an authentic used Rolex timepiece and not the fake replicas that occupy such a big share in the markets. Think about the type of the old watch desired in terms of if it has the latest style and features or it is the classic model and check with various dealers to find out the stuff they got.

There is no better hub to search for hot deals for used ladies Rolex watches than online sites similar to those of men because these dealers stock collections of timepieces. Take a picture of a particular watch that is admired the most and take that to an expert jeweler or a close watch enthusiast to find out more about its authenticity. Remember no one else needs to know the item is actually second hand or original if the owner does not want that to happen.

Tip #1 - A real Rolex is heavy while replica Rolex is light

A genuine Rolex with a metal bracelet should feel heavy. In fact, it should feel more heavy than any watch you have try before. Simply hold the watch in your hands to see if it is heavy. A replica model will feel light. This is a clear signal that the watch might be a fake. For models that are used for diving purposes such as Submariner or other Oyster cased model, the watch itself should be heavy. That's how it can sustain such intense underwater pressure. Hence, make sure that when you buy a used Rolex, it should feel heavy, not light

Tip #2 - A real Rolex uses crystal while replica Rolex uses plastic

On most Rolex watches, you will see a crystal transparent piece that enables people to see the dial face while protecting it. For other watches, they might use plastics. However, for authentic Rolex watches, they use a sapphire-like crystal. This is a real easy thing to see. Don't buy used Rolex that looks like it uses cheap plastic crystals or thin glasses. Only buy used Rolex that has a crystal piece.

Tip #3 -- Real Rolex has big date while a replica Rolex has a small date

If you look at any Rolex, there is likely to be a bubble-like date window. The reason for the bubble is to magnify the numerals and help users tell the date more clearly. This is something that all real Rolex possesses. However, when you see that the date number on a used Rolex is crocked or not magnified, be aware that it is likely to be a fake. Every Rolex is perfectly made so a real Rolex will not allow such imperfections to happen. Same thing is true with the numerals and arrow points on the dial. If they don't look perfect, don't buy that watch!

Tip #4 - Real Rolex has smooth second hands while replica Rolex has choppy second hands

The second hand of a Rolex gives a you a very good way to tell if it is a real or a fake. Specifically, you need to watch the movement of the second hand closely. On a real Rolex (with a few exceptions you're not likely to run into) the second hand rotates smoothly around the dial. On most rip offs, the second hand "ticks" second by second around the dial. Once you see that the movement of the second hand stutters, raise your alarm alert as it is strong indication that this is a fake Rolex.

Rolex...................?

where can i get a fake Rolex watch for a man from a RELIABLE website?|||You can not know that.

Every site sells watches made in China. They claim that there are different “grades” of watches. They claim that there are Swiss made, Japanese made, Italian made, and Asian replicas. The truth is they are all made in China.

What they call an Asian replica sells for under $100 and is worth about $5-$10. If worn every day it might last two weeks, and will not keep good time. It will not be water resistant.

What they call a Japanese or Italian made replica sells for under $250, and is worth about $15-$25. If worn every day it might last two months, and it might keep good time. It will not likely be watch resistant.

What they call a Swiss replica varies in quality. They sell from anywhere between $400 to $1200. The watch is worth at best $50. If worn every day it might last two years. The time will have to be set every two weeks or so. It will at least be watch resistant.

The fact is that none of them are what they claim they are. They say the watch has a Swiss ETA movement. The wholesale cost on an ETA movement with date is about $100. The Chronograph movements wholesale for about $400. The cost of a sapphire crystal is about $200. Do the math.

The biggest problem is the sites are operated from outside the USA. You might pay $900 for what they call a “Grade A Swiss Replica” but you may receive any one of the above.

How can i tell if this Rolex is real or not?

My dad just bought a Rolex... how can you tell if a rolex is real or fake? thanks for your time.|||Nothing is fool-proof but... Look for spelling errors on all markings. Go to www.rolex.com and look up the model. Make sure all the markings are there. Almost all Rolex watches should say, "Swiss Made" in the 6 o'clock position.

The Rolex crown should have 5-points.

If it is marked, "Oyster Perpetual," the second hand should "sweep" and not tick on the seconds.

They also have unique serial numbers... if the guy selling you one has multiple ones, they might all have the same s/n... a dead give-away.

I believe they all have sapphire crystals and all the diver watches have screw-down crowns (the big knob should not just pop-out... you have to unscrew it before it can be pulled out). Checking the sapphire takes some balls - try scratching it w/ a clean US penny or quarter... these are softer than calcite and shouldn't be hard enough to scratch sapphire. Your father might be pretty pissed if you scratch his watch tho... fake or not! (w/o the scratch, it could still be a sharp looking watch - assuming a good enough fake). Don't bare down too hard on it... regardless, this probably isn't recommended. Personally, I'd kill you if you tried this w/my new Rolex... even if I knew you wouldn't scratch it (also make sure it is indeed made of sapphire - it should say it... usually on the back).

Fakes tend to weigh less than real ones due to not using the same materials (gold and stainless are pretty heavy).

If the price was too good to be true - it was... he got a fake.

If the watch is new, but wasn't purchased at an "authorized" dealer, you again run the risk of it being a fake.

Certificates of Authenticity are worthless; if you want, I'll print you up one on my computer.|||was the arm still attached to the watch? if so then it may be a real rolex... if not its probably a fake.|||i think if it has diamonds on it and you scratch it on glass or a window or something and it leaves a scratch that means its real|||Look and see if it has the word Rolex on it|||any reputable jeweler would be able to tell you. As you noticed, you get more watch for about half the price. Rolex has a little more versatile styling and can be dressed up a bit more and it gets points if you want a smaller watch, but that's about it. You pay an extra 50% for the brand name.

However, I'd prefer a Patek to either. They're less well known to the general public but anybody who is in to watches will know this brand and anyone who knows it will tell you that it's a lot nicer than either.|||Breitling - definitely. How can I tell if a rolex watch is real?

How can I tell if the Rolex watch is real?|||I just copied it all from the site, that I posted at the bottom:

CLEAR CASEBACKS... Probably one of the easiest ways to identify a fake Rolex is by the caseback. Counterfeiters will often use a clear display, or "skeleton" caseback, thus allowing you to view the inner workings of the watch. The problem is Rolex does not make such a watch, therefore, these models are easily identified as counterfeit. (Please Note: There are only 2 "known" examples of Rolex watches with glass "exhibition backs", and they are both vintage manual wind models from the 1930s, and they were not "production" models.)

ENGRAVED CASEBACKS... In addition to the "clear casebacks" listed above, engraved casebacks are another easy way to identify counterfeit Rolex watches. Again, Rolex does not engrave the caseback with logos, hallmarks, or designs (as shown in the example above). Genuine Rolex models will have a "smooth" caseback, and are free of these engravings.

Comparison of genuine and counterfiet "hologram stickers".

Right: Counterfeit fabricated hologram sticker.

--------------------------------------鈥?br>

HOLOGRAM STICKERS...

Comparison of a genuine and counterfiet "date magnification".

Left: Genuine Rolex Submariner with proper (2.5 times) date magnification.

Right: Counterfiet Rolex Submariner with much smaller date magnification.

--------------------------------------鈥?br>

DATE MAGNIFICATION... For authentic Rolexes, the crystal (on all current date models--excluding the Sea-Dweller) will have a glass bubble, or "cyclops" attached to the crystal, positioned over the date. Its purpose is to magnify the tiny aperture and does so at 2.5 times magnification.

However, on MOST counterfiet models the date magnification is more like 1.5 times, at best (as shown in the example above).

Comparison of a genuine and counterfeit "Triplock crown seal".

Right: Counterfeit Rolex Submariner basic crown without seal.

--------------------------------------鈥?br>

TRIPLOCK CROWN SEAL...
